A practical travel-safety guide for visiting Israel

Before you fly

• Register your trip with your country's embassy or consulate in Israel.
• Check current guidance from official sources before booking and again before flying.
• Insurance matters. Verify that your travel and medical insurance covers your itinerary.
• Save key numbers: 100 (police), 101 (ambulance/MDA), 102 (fire), and your embassy's emergency line.

On the ground

• Install the Home Front Command app and enable alerts for the areas you visit. It provides real-time instructions in English.
• Learn the shelter routine. Ask your hotel or hosts where the nearest protected space is. In an alert, you typically have between 15 seconds and a few minutes depending on the region — knowing your shelter in advance is what matters.
• Follow local instructions. Israelis are experienced with these routines; when in doubt, do what the people around you do.
• Getting around — licensed taxis, trains, and major bus lines are reliable; traffic apps like Waze are universal.

Security situations differ by region and can change quickly. Check guidance for specific areas — especially near borders — shortly before you travel, and build flexibility into your plans.
